Eclectic Eye x Masahiromaruyama

Eclectic Eye x Masahiromaruyama

So for about 14 years now, (*slowly whispers, “saaaaad”*) I’ve been in need glasses. My main hesitation - I guess - has been not finding the right pair with enough style . . . because style apparently comes before vision.

Anywho, a few weeks back, I had the opportunity to do a jewelry pop-up (because that’s the other hat I wear) at a local eye care center, and my favorite - Eclectic Eye. They specialize in some of the most innovative frames in the Mid-South, and being surrounded by the coolest frames for an entire day during the pop-up would only lead to me leaving with a pair of glasses. I could feel it.

For the pop-up, I created jewelry pieces that focused on the fun, quirky, yet sleek designs of maker, Mykita. So for my portion of the design job, this meant creating while using bright colors, great textures and simple, yet throughtful, lines.

But there was one pair of glasses in particular that kept staring at me - yes, these glasses stared at me . . . as if they knew I wouldn’t make it through the week without coming back for them. They were right.

Y’all, these glasses were simply the flyest that I’d ever seen! Made by Japanese designer, Masahiromaruyama, the asymmetrical design of the glasses speaks to how I personally create jewelry. So of course it was love at first sight . . . pun totally intended.

Within a couple of days, I had an appointment set up with my new and favorite optometrist, Dr. Michael D. Weinberg. And within the same week, my vision became clearer and I had my new specs! I even commented that it felt as if someone had cleaned my eyes - not that I walk around with dirty eyes, or anything. Gosh!

I can’t end this post without mentioning Robbie, owner of Eclectic Eye, who invited me to be part of the pop-up event in the first place. She might be one of the dopest, genuine and driven people that I’ve met. Because of the pop-up, I had the opportunity to share my familiar and creative history with her. She in turn shared a bit of her story with me. I think it’s safe to say that there’s a really neat friendship in the works.

If you live in Memphis, in the surrounding area or plan to visit soon, and you’re in need of eyewear that speaks to who you are as an individual, make sure to visit Eclectic Eye and their team. You will have an experience unparalled to any other visit to the average eye doctor.
