Hi.

Laser Hair Removal . . . Yup, I've Started the Process!

Laser Hair Removal . . . Yup, I've Started the Process!

Gather in everyone . . .

So y’all, last week, I did a thing. I started the process of laser hair removal, and for my back - before the mind begins to wander. Since an early age, I developed what I’ve jokingly called an extra sweater, winter fur, wings of hair . . . I think you get it. And because Memphis summers are so hot and muggy, having any amount of body hair makes staying cool a real struggle.

Too - and this is completely my opinion about self - since I go to the gym and only wear tank tops, having back hair peek out from either side of my shirt is a NUH SIR! Plus, the marks left on a workout bench from sweat and hair . . . chillay!

So, I FINALLY decided to do something about it.

I did some research, and found one of the top places in this region that does laser hair removal - as well as a whole list of services I’m now considering as part of my self care - A Beautiful You Medical Spa.

I had a consultation with the owner and friend, Lorrie. When I tell you she was thorough in her explanation of the laser hair removal process! The nerves I initially felt about starting this process where calmed after speaking with Lorrie. I mean to just think, my back hair would be gone. And like GONE, gone! So naturally the nerves were replaced with excitement!

But first . . .

What Makes a Person a Good Candidate for Laser Hair Removal?

Basically, as long as your hair is dark - or at least brown - then you’re a great fit for laser hair removal. The process takes an average of 5-7 sessions in order to get all of the hair removed. And thankfully because of that, their packages for hair removal are offered in 5 sessions with two additional touchups at no charge. Thank. You!

Pro Tip

Y’all - and my guys listen - if you’re going in for laser hair removal at ABYMS, make sure to shave down the hair where you’ll have the process done . . . and if it has to be a team effort, do what you gotta do! But honestly, it will make the process of laser hair removal faster and allow the expert to really do their magic.

How was it?

If you’re thinking that laser hair removal is painful, don’t worry AT all - although as I mentioned, I had my fears at first, only because I had waxing as my only source of comparison. But after this first laser hair removal session on my back, I’ll never get anything waxed ever again. Here, they’ll place cooling gel on you, and that honestly is the only sensation you’ll feel (other than a slight prickly feeling as the small laser moves over you). So you can put your fears away. I promise you.

Now in week two, the hair that is “growing back” is essentially falling off in the shower (it’s also recommended to bathe with a loofah on the third day after getting laser hair removal to keep the pores open and prevent the hair from growing inward).

You have no idea just how excited I am! To think that I can wear my tank tops and go to the pool and beach without having to first pop like 5 Tylenols in order to get my back waxed is glorious! Just glorious!

So if you’ve been thinking about laser hair removal, I’d recommend calling A Beautiful You Medical Spa to set up your consultation and get this thing started! You’ll love the team there. And I’ll make sure to keep you updated on my journey as I go in for my next treatment in a few more weeks.

Oh, and if you’re asking when I’ll get my chest done . . . I’ve come to terms that my “‘Hairy’ Belafonte” will only add to my dapper as I age. So it’s staying :-P

Let me know your thoughts and if you’ve considered laser hair removal!
